As the saying goes : Time flies when you are having fun. I had a fabulous two years designing for KCK. The new year brings changes and they have decided to discontinue the KCK blog. Thank you Mr K. for the wonderful opportunity and here are my farewell projects.

I worked outside my comfort zone and made two Clean and Simple (CAS) style layouts. There are no floral, fabric or resin embellishments on my projects. Just the wonderfully graphic designs of Webster's CHA Winter 2011 papers.

It was a challenge for me to eliminate down to a minimal design. Especially as my natural inclination is towards layered, textured and zero white space creations. But these two layouts are extremely satisfying and appealing to me.

Sandy's Spotlight : Graphic 45 Le Cirque

As requested by store manager Gigi, I worked with Graphic 45's Le Cirque collection this month. I created a series of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs). There are six cards in my 'Run Away to the Circus series'

For those not familiar with ATCs, they are paper craft creations the measure 2.5" x 3.5". Any variety of media can be used on them e.g. paints, pencil, collage, papercuts. Other than the size, the distinguishing feature of ATCs is that they are traded or exchanged rather than sold.

As ATCs are pretty small, I relied on the Le Cirque Borders paper for the little images. Since I wanted a layered look, I combined two or more border strips to create the background for several of the ATCs.

I thoroughly enjoyed making these ATCs as they allowed me to indulge in my love of embellishing. For an enlarged view, you can double click on any of the images.

Sandy's Spotlight : Doily & Sewing

Scrapbooking sees trends come and go. However, the current fashion of using doilies and stitching on layouts has been around for quite a while. I machine stitched the border on mine but if you prefer handsewing, you can check out the Sew Easy products available in store.

I liked the journal pads from the Tres Elegant collection so much that I designed my 8.5"x11" layout around one of the pages. I mounted Cleo's photo on the journal page as though she was looking out of a window onto the kraft paper with the birds among the branches.

Sandy's Spotlight : We R Memory Keepers

Since it's September school holiday this week, I popped down to the store to picked up supplies with kid appeal. Newly arrived are several We R Memory Keepers collections, including these cuties :

This couple on their love bicycle is one of the designs that immediately grabbed me. It is reminds me of Laura Stoddart's distinctive illustration style. I used them with a shaped frame from a quadrant paper to make this fun, whimsical card.

Here are several more little cards / gift tags. They are quick and easy to make. Just pop those embossible stickers on top of journal cards. Then add little decorative details like a sewn-on button or a row of bling.

Sandy's Spotlight : Prima Madeline

This month I got to play with Prima's Madeline collection and created a wedding project. It's a trio of trinklet boxes inspired by the rich, jewelled tones of an Indian wedding. My friend requested a set to hold bangles as gifts for her bridesmaids.

SING and DANCE share the same basic design - the circle asymmetrically divided. However the one has a vertical alignment while the other is horizontal. I think the little chipboard squares contrast nicely with the circular design.The alphas are handcut from Prima's Parterre paper. I love the font and nicely neutral colour so much that I'm hoarding an extra paper for future projects.

LOVE is photoed here stacked here on top the other two holders. You can see the botanical designs on the sides of the boxes which I selected as having a vaguely Indian feel to them. Here the circle is divided into three uneven bands. And the rich red tones are replaced by a serene blue. Pearl push pins and a hint of doily provide the touch of romance.

Sandy's Spotlight : More Echo Park

I enjoyed playing with Echo Park so much that I created two more cards.

Carte Postal was my attempt to create a vignette of an auction catalogue. The first thing I did was to cut off the left side of a journal card and staple it together. Adding a tab to the side created my catalogue. Then I anchored it with an ornate frame of the black script. To add a touch of whimsy, I put a pointing finger below the Carte Postal stamp. Then sewed randomly across the top edge of the card.

The second card has a touch of Parisian style card. To my mind, it speaks of promenading around in a little black dress with a dainty pink doodle underfoot.

The central focus are three postage stamp stickers. I kept the little scallop borders between the stamps but trimmed off those around the outside edges. The scallops were repurposed as a partial border on the long, grey patterned strip. The dimensional embellishments were limited to little push pins and pink sticker hearts.

Sandy's Spotlight : Echo Park

When I was in the store last month, SJ the store manager asked for some Echo Park projects for the blog. I picked up For the Record and Be Mine with the aim of making some retro-style cards. If you like cuter collections, Little Boy, Little Girl and Springtime are also available.

This first card was inspired by the well-known record label His Master's Voice. The starting point was to find a way to show sound coming from the trumpet of the Echo Park gramaphone. I used a bloom and red tab around the hello label (which also serves as the sentiment of my card). Then I opened up the prongs of a brad and glued it on to simulate the gramaphone's needle.

This next card was a lift of Pink Heather's amazing fine art collages. The colour palette was unusual for me but I think mixing the yellow from For the Record made the pink of Be Mine pop nicely.

The red frame was a Basic Grey sultry rub-on. Originally the flourishes went across the top only. That didn't suit my design so I cut up the excess that went off the page and applied them down the left side of the frame. For a non-stamper like me, rub-ons are a wonderful substitute and in this case even more versatile.

Sandy's Spotlight - Travel Forever

Anyone out there who's a fan of travel collections ? I am because to me they hold such wonderful promise of places to visit and things to see. Here are three projects using Best Creation's Travel Forever collection. It's versatile enough that I can create non travel-related projects too. So happy that these are in store now.

First up is my Living Life card inspired by the bullet nose shape of the Eurostar. The little pink scooter and the striped arrows add to the sense of movement (and I must admit my angle of photography helps too).

Next is a altered box using a plastic divider that I found. In this opened view, you can see the customised compartments I made to hold my tags and labels. You can see sneaks of the collection's papers on the lid where I used part of the 6x6 paper pad cover.

And here's the cover for my box. You actually get the car, luggage, wavy road and die-cut border in one 6x6 sheet. However to play with scale, I stuck a larger car and two sets of luggage on top of the existing ones.

This final card is meant to serve as a relocation announcement. Making it was a joy as I really enjoy 'pile-it-on' type projects. And this style seemed well suited for a card about packing all your belongings and going somewhere else to live.

Hi! I am Jona Panesa, a scrapbooker from the Philippines. I am a working mom to a 5 year old preschooler, Zid and wife to a photo enthusiast, Glen who lovingly supports my addiction to scrapbooking. I am our family's memory keeper who devotes time to preserve our memories in artworks. I am first a scrapbooker who also loves cardmaking and stamping, and turning trash into treasures through recycled art.

I have been scrapbooking for more than four years now and loved to cluster my embellishments. I love texture and dimension on my pages. My style varies and has evolved through the years. I find inspiration on the papers and embellishments I design with.

I am blessed to design with Webster Pages. I love their paper and embellishments. In my lay-out, I used the country estate collection, together with the trims, WP flowers, and sparklers.

Sandy's Spotlight : Singapore Book Fair

KCK is exhibiting at the Singapore Book Fair from 27 May to 5 June. In celebration, 100 crafters who 'liked' Krafer Paradise's facebook page received a supplies goodie bag. And the projects they made are being shown at the Fair.

I chose to work with the KCK's signature product : Handmade sticker from my goodie bag. By combining elements from three stickers, I created this 'U r Great' card. I think it'll make a timely Father's Day card with the checked patterns and blue/brown/grey colour palette.

Today's featured crafter shares her layout using Simple Stories' Destination collection.

Hello, my name is Jeanette and I have been residing in Singapore all my life. I started scrapbooking 2 years ago when I chanced upon a local scrapbooking store. Since then, scrapbooking has become an essential part of my life. Since I have a full time job, the only time I get to scrapbook are on weekends. KCK is one of those local shops that I frequent and I was indeed honoured when Sandy approached me to guest design for this month.

I chose to use the Destination collection as I am a big fan of travel lines. I make it a point to travel twice a year so I do make it a point to stock up on travel scrapbooking lines. Simple Stories, Destination collection was simply irresistible and there is so much potential on what you can do with the papers and embellishments. Do check out both the Destination and the Life Documented collections available in the store.

This layout is entitled ‘USA.’ It was a picture taken as we were just flying across the Canyons from a domestic flight to Colorado Springs. I am very much a ‘cut and paste’ scrapper as I do not like to see the potential of each paper go to waste.

Here are some close ups of the layout. Notice the charm attached to the brad at the top right hand corner of the layout?

What I really loved about this layout would be the incorporation of a hidden journal. Personally, I hate the idea of journaling on my layout as I do not like my own handwriting and is afraid that it will destroy the layouts. So in this case, I used my handy Crop-a-dile, brads and scorer to build a little hidden journal spot next to the picture. I then used the alphabets stickers from the Destination collection to jot down some memories of the trip.

This week we welcome back Singaporean scrapper June Goh.

Hi, my name is June and I am so happy to be back as a guest designer. I'm addicted to scrapbooking and cannot get enough of paper and inks. As a mum of 2 active boys, scrapbooking is the place I go to late at night when everyone has gone to bed. My scraping corner is where I go to when I need some peace and quiet.

Sandy's Spotlight : Bella BLVD

Hi, today I'm spotlighting the four Bella BLVD collections that are in store :

I love how each collection has a Quadrant consisting of four 6"x6" patterns on one sheet of paper. So I grabbed a couple and made these mini-van treat holders.

Each van measures 3" x 1.5" x1.5" and has little giftcard toppers created from Family Dynamix playing cards. And the sentiments are stickers from Simple Stories which are also available in store.

Here's a close up of the 'I love you' van where I turned the paw prints from Tail Waggers and Cat Naps into windscreen wippers. And the circular paterns into headlights and wheel spokes. The little dino driver is also from one of the Quadrant papers.

Today's featured crafter is Emily who is showing us how she uses Unity Stamps.

Hi, my name is Emily Leiphart and I live in Toronto, Canada. I’ve been married for seven years and have a very energetic two year old son. Art has always been part of my life! I’ve dabbled in wood work, painting, jewellery making and even photography. I studied both piano and violin for over a decade and I’m an accomplished make up artist. I enjoy creating, no matter the medium, and I hope to instill a large amount of creativity in my son! I’ve studied several languages intensely including Chinese, French and Italian and I’m constantly working to improve those language skills. Before our son was born, my husband and I loved to travel. Between the two of us, we’ve been to more than two dozen countries but Italy remains a favourite and it’s where we hope to retire!

I was honoured to be a Guest Designer for Unity Stamp Company in December 2010 and January 2011. I'm so excited that Unity's amazing stamps are now available at Krafers' Paradise! Here are a few of the cards I made using Unity stamps:

This first card uses stamps from Echo Park's With Love. The roses in the background are from the Iron Orchid Designs set Love Never Fails and the Eiffel Tower is from When I Am With You. That lovely frame is one of my favourite Unity stamps of all time!

This next card uses stamps from Iron Orchid Designs: My Dear and Loolah Collection. I used a navy and pink colour theme. You can find the frame tutorial here.

Finally, I have a card that uses a beautiful frame from Marah Johnson's Breathless. I stamped it on acetate, cut out two layers, filled it with shiny red hearts and stitched around it. The background was created using Giving It All Meaning and a floral border from To the Moon & Back.

Today's featured crafter is a lovely friend of mine - Kirsty.

Hi, I’m Kirsty Vittetoe, born and raised in Sunny Island Singapore but now a resident in United States. I began scrapbooking way back in 1992, I could not find any scrapbooking store in those days, I got all my supplies when I visited Australia, New Zealand or United States. It all started with the love for paper, from a mom trying to preserved the precious memory for her kids, to card-making, and now, I am the owner of a kit club, a full time designer, “playing” with paper is my job, as well as my joy.

Featured Crafter - Robin

Today's feature is on crafter Robin.

Greetings everyone! My name is Robin Shakoor and I am truly honored to have been asked to be the featured designer this week. I live in Fredericksburg, VA with my husband, daughter, one spoiled puppy and three birds. I am a Human Resources Manager by day and paper crafter by night! I love everything from vintage to shabby chic styles. I like to bring out the design details and beauty of the papers and embellishments I use for my projects. My style has been described as detailed, elegant and multifaceted. Many of my projects are adorned with floral accents and touches of the unique. I use a variety of techniques such as digital scrapbooking, floral design, painting, sewing and stamping to create one-of -a-kind projects. I enjoy creating altered projects, cards and scrapbook layouts.

Today, I am happy to share with you my layout titled “Sweet Cheeks.” This layout features the beautiful “Once Upon a Springtime” collection from Graphic 45. The sheet of patterned paper I chose was loaded with beautiful images. I detail cut around some of the images to create a frame. I then placed my frame on top of green dotted patterned paper also from the collection. Next, I stamped a flourish behind the spot where I placed my title.

I enjoy detail cutting to create custom embellishments. Here, I cut the image of a fairy from my patterned paper. I attached the fairy to the page using foam squares and placed her so it appears that she is placing flowers in the baby’s hair. Here, I used a craft knife to carefully cut around the flowers and rabbits on the left side of the page as well as the fairy on the right side of the page. This created a soft, beautiful space for my photo.

Sandy's Spotlight : Curtain Call

My favourite of the graphic45 collections Mr K. brought in is Curtain Call. I love the sophistication of it's black and cream palette and the wonderful combination of images and geometric patterns. And for me, graphic45's interpretation of 20s and 30s vintage is just inspired.

So here's my project using one 8"x8" mini-paper pad.

It's a Jigsaw Giftbox. Two interlocking boxes that measure 2"x2"x2" decorated with movie inspired images from the collection. The perfect size for holding pairs of movie tickets and popcorn vouchers.

If you love a particular collection (like I do Curtain Call), getting a pack will result in a saving over buying the papers individually. The papers in the pack are double-sided just like the loose papers. Both the 12"x12" pads and the 8"x8" pads are available in store for Curtain Call and Le Cirque.

Ticket Master Station

I used Graphic 45, LeCirque Collection on my Ticket Master Station. I bought this little sewing box at a thrift store. After giving it a coat of fresh black paint, I added some of my favorite papers, tickets and four ticket spools to the top. I painted four wooden beads and added them to the top of the ticket spools so they would match the front drawers.

This frame was also purchased at a thrift store and I took it apart and painted it all black. I added some LeCirque images to the inside of the frame and added red tulle for curtains. I love to alter and have found some real treasures at these thrift stores!

Sandy's Spotlight - Mini Album

Today's spotlight is on Basic Grey's travel collection : Wander. While I was on vacation in London I shot a short video, so my mini-album also incorporated a pocket to hold the video disc.

The holder is made from folding one long strip of paper. It ends up 6"x6" and this is the cover. I like the graffiti-feel of AR Darling font. Used it on LONDON! here and again on the other page titles. When you flip open the cover, there's a busy two-pager with those crazy airplane trails.

Flipping the right panel upwards, you'll see the next two-pager which comes in the vertical format. And the video disc sitting in a triangular pocket of building blocks. Further unfolding reveals the final two-pager. I journalled what was most memorable during the trip here.

Hello! My name is Marie Levite. I live in New York with my husband, daughter, two cats and our dog. When I'm not crafting you can find me on the pool deck cheering on my swim addicted daughter. I don't have one yet. I'm still trying to figure out which die-cut machine is a better buy since there are so many in the market. A good machine should be able to use other dies as well. Hi scrapper friends! I live in North Carolina with my dear husband and our two standard poodles that are at least as spoiled as any child could possibly be! About 5 years ago my niece made my parents a scrapbook for their 60th wedding anniversary. When I saw her beautiful project, I instantly knew, I want to do that too! So I began my scrapbooking adventures by making scrapbooks for my two best friends, chronicling the adventures of our 35 years of friendship.

I love all styles of scrapbooking, but if I have to choose, I’d say vintage mixed with some shabby chic is what I love the most. For me, journaling is a very important part of my scrapbooks. I love writing the story and 20 years from now when I am 80 years old, I want to have something to remind me what the story was. I don’t have children so I am not so concerned with saving the memories to hand down to future generations. For me, scrapbooking is an artistic adventure, what can I create next, how can I make this piece of paper come to life? How can I tell the story that is hidden in this photograph?

This layout, Imagine, features my parents shortly before they got married. To this day, my Dad still carries this photo in his wallet. It is a very special photo to him and so it is special to me. The journal reads: This photo was taken shortly before Mom and Dad were married. Did they imagine then, that they would be married for more than 67 years? Today, they are almost 89 years old and they are still working on their love story.

This Memories layout was created using the Curio Collection from Basic Grey. This paper to me has the elegant and classy touch in every paper they have. The combo colors of soft pink, cameo blue and antique mahogany is timeless color. Lookout for the elements of classic lace doilies, fine bone china - is a complete combo of shabby chic vintage collections. I decided to boost up the layout by giving a strong yellow color from the BG Origins Collection as background and it turns out to be fine and traditional detail layout.

Inspiration Project #2 :

This "You Make Me Smile" layout was done using the Marjolaine Collection from Basic Grey. I must admit, blue and green is my favorite color combination and I just love the bold, floral prints in this collection! What I really love about this collection is the versatility! It can be used for either masculine or feminine projects depending on what embellishments you pair with it! What's better than that?

Challenge Designer - Pearl

Pearl is the third member of the challenge design team.

My name is Pearl and I’m a SAHM to 2 wonderful children. After the birth of our daughter in 1995, I started cardmaking via punchart and acquired the tools , punches and papers in the hopes that they would be useful for my kids at the right age. From 2006, onwards ,there was such a shift in products available in the papercraft industry and I started using more scrapbooking products in my cardmaking. Magazines and on-line galleries were full of inspiration, so by October 2006 I started scrapbooking again and have never looked back since.

As far as my creative process goes, my approach is either product driven or photo driven at the outset. I then choose the rest of the elements and put them together. I am a pretty fast scrapper and it’s rare for me to take things off once they are stuck down .

Inspiration Project :

I have a Hopscotch shaped mini album ( by Magistical Memories) and have waited for the right papers to come along to create an album with. The BG Hopscotch is such a fun and versatile range and helped me quickly create a friendship album for one of my daughter's school friends. It has the perfect colours and patterns for these pics of teenage girls having fun and games outdoors without being too girly girl.

The top pieces I simply painted a couple of layers with Chalkboard Mist in Chocolate Mint. The negative numbers were highlighted with a little Diamond Stickles. The rest of the chipboard pieces in the album I just covered with patterned paper. I layered the BG die cuts and chip stickers around the photos for a quick and simple finish to the album.

This week our challenge designers will be showcasing the Basic Grey Collections that have newly arrived in store. I'll kick off with Curio - a collection which references a quaint, English estate-sale aesthetic.

When I got my Curio supplies, I expected to create mainly vintage inspired projects in a softly shabby-chic style. And my first card is exactly that. However I surprised myself with what I created next : a loudly graphic interpretation of comic book style. Just goes to show how versatile this collection is.

Hell0 aspires to be an artful arrangement of country house knick knacks. I made the two element stickers my focus and build around them using flower cut-outs, a distressed letter-print and lacy border strips. Layering two colour alphas gave the sentiment a little more punch.

Yup! . . Perfect is my second card. Here I took my inspiration from poster design and the popular 'explosion' graphic found in comic books. When creating my sentiment, I chose two alphas that are commonly left over - Y and U. Adding a P to create my typographic element of YUP!

Our Sweet Memories - 6" x 4" Mini-Album

Glittering Glamour papers are beautiful collection by KCK. It is very glittery and very glamourous. I love the texture of the patterned papers and it is thick. Therefore it is versatile for all types of projects.

The embellishment stickers that I chose are so lovely and very eclectic looking. Perfect combination to go along with the papers!

For this mini album, I kept the look simple, simply because the papers are so beautiful. I fussy cut the papers and layer them to give a dimensional look by using foam dots. The balance of the papers I created a handmade flower at the cover.

I also used a butterfly punch to punch the papers to further enhance the designs. To finish the look I distress the edges of the mini album with brown ink.

Sandy's Spotlight : Quilling Dies

My spotlight tutorial this week is a Chinese New Year project using KCK's Quilling Dies. I'll show you how easy it is to make these cherry blossoms to decorate your home.

Instructions :

Using a variety of pattern paper, I cut these quilling strips using KCK's Flower Dies. The narrower strips will be the flower centers (Dies #1102 and 1105) while the wider ones will be the outer petals (Dies #1104 and #1107)
Roll the narrow strip into a tight coil. You can use KCK's Quilling Tool or simply roll it by hand. Then continue by wrapping the wider strip around the coil, fastening the end with glue
Make about a dozen blossoms and glue them onto twigs with fast acting adhesive like Helmar 450. Especially useful this time of the year if you have pussy willow or sakura branches. Just pick off the wilted blossoms and recycle the branches for your quilled flowers

And an altered Chinese New Year project featuring Sassafras Count Me In collection.

Sandy is the final member of the Challenge Design Team and the coordinator.

Chinese New Year for me is all about visiting family and friends - and mandarin oranges are the indispensible good luck greeting item. For this project, I altered a tin can to serve as my oranges-holder. This project features lots of bunnies to celebrate 2011 being the Year of the Rabbit.

Supplies :

Sassafras Count Me In Collection - papers (love to learn, elementary, plus my pals, polka polka); stickers (flag banner, journal tag)

Sassafras embellishments - in a stich blossoms (earth tones), chipboard (garden bits orange)
Other embellishments - Basic Grey sugar rush brads, Basic Grey opaline half pearls, Maya Road Luxe Stoney Island Alpha, Studio18 rhinestones, flowers, ribbons, safety pins

Inspiration Project :

A closeup of the lid. You can just see the blue ribbon trim I treaded through the journal tag. and the row of fussy cut bunnies surrounding a layered chipboard flower.

And of the safety-pin whiskers on my bunnies. And those sweet little flowers which serve to break up the cylindrical shape of the tin.

The 2011 label that I tucked just below the left handle.

The alphas were sanded down in order to 'take' the gold acrylic paint. And a first for me - gold glitter flakes which seemed to add a touch of 'richness' for a Chinese New Year project.

Faridah is the third member of the challenge design team.

Hi hi! I'm Faridah Hajarmustika @ mustikmonkeys. The love of my life, my hubby, is my biggest supporter and motivator to scrap. Our daughter, Sofya, is the live wire of our family and my favourite subject in photography. I teach full-time, so since I started scrapping in 2009, I feel a more sense of balance in life. I've not really settled for a style but I basically create within colour palette and love to add a lot of embellishments to my layouts. Scrapping keeps me happy, very, very, happy! Inspiration Project :

The inspiration of this layout is the Paris Night Collection papers, especially the 'Louve' pattern paper. Though my hubby says it looks like a sofa cover fabric, it was love at first sight! I just love such gorgeous, vintage and intricate design, especially that it is in strong velvet black. Talking about love, the long title is the chorus line of the song 'Lucky' by Jason Mraz, my current favourite love song!

The strong black on beige background and the shimmer of the grey papers made me pick this photo, which happens to be my favourite wedding photoshoot picture. The pink added to the colour palette is inspired from the roses of my hand bouquet. The butterflies cut out from the Artsy Urban collection were perfect to add a little touch of primary colours to the whole black, beige and pink theme. I love how the Basic Grey label stickers matched the theme, complemented by the metal embellishments from KCK. I thoroughly enjoyed doing a lot of cutting, matting and layering using the beautiful GCD Studio patterned papers and a lot of sponge dots.

Azura is the second member of the Challenge Design Team.

Hello! My name is Azura Alyssa. I am down to earth, cheerful and loud. I always have crazy and fun ideas. My life circles around those who are close to me especially my family, my friends and of course my boyfriend. They are everything to me. And in the end they become the subjects of my scraps! I love making others happy and that is my ultimate goal in life. I do this through birthday surprises and listening to those in need. My obsession oops I mean passion is definitely Scrapbooking! It is now a part of who I am. Its my own little retreat of being artsy fartsy. I am always a scrapbooker at heart but I only got hooked to scrapbooking since 3 years ago when I bought my first acid-lingin free paper. My style is always evolving in scrapbooking. Sometimes, I go for the simplicity of layouts but at other times, I want to keep my hands dirty with splattering paints, crushing papers, tearing papers, stitching and what not. I create a lot of 12x12 pages but I’m actually addicted to mini albums and cards.

Inspiration Project :

KCK has a range of art canvases that are perfect for any kind of projects. Not to mention, the acrylic paints, wonderful collection of papers and ribbons..it was flooding with inspiration. I knew I had to get the Sassafras Count Me In Papers as its not too feminine to create a guy valentines day canvas cum frame.

To start, I place the papers in position just like what I would do on a 12x12 paper only now my space is smaller but not limited. To create a composed look ensure that the "weight" of the papers are at the bottom and nothing is too heavy at the top. Sassafras papers are perfect for layering projects. The colours in the Basic Grey die cut blended well with the Sassafras papers. Be careful when using too much colours on your LO, for me to be on a safe side, use at least one strong colour(which in my case is orange) and then choose 3 more colours that will match the rest of the LO(which is my case are purple, yellow, pink drawn from the papers) and splashes of green that matches my picture! Its actually better if you can draw colours from your photo, otherwise black and white pictures can also go well with colourful patterned papers. No projects would be completed without a 3D embellishment, and as for me, the chipboard stickers in Sassafras Top Ten Pinks are perfect as some of the chipboard sticker such as the asterisk act as a makeshift pop up flower. You can also add a bit of texture by spraying glimmer mist or splatter paint colours to the canvas.

Challenge Design Team - Rachel

In the lead-up to February, this month's designers are showcasing their Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day projects.

Challenge Designer :

Rachel is the first member of the Challenge Design Team.

I’m a mother of 2 young children aged 6 and 5. I started doing scrapbooking 6 years ago about my first child and everything there is to life. What started out as a hobby turned into a full time business. I quitted my job over a year ago and leaped with faith to set up “My Beansprouts". My Beansprouts customizes and personalizes gifts for all occasions, mostly baby full month and birthday favors. Some say it’s a big sacrifice to leave a high pay job for a fluctuating pay but this business is my little heaven on earth! I love to alter objects of any kind so my entire house is littered with altered projects of all kinds.

My retirement plan is to live out my passion of doing what I like best with my hands with the God given creativity….now I’m kind of into early retirement.

Inspiration Project :

As my current craze are birthday banners, I was inspired to come up with a pair of CNY greeting couplets (对联). For a start, I used the KCK paper with Chinese word “福” from the Glittering Glamour series to cut out the scallop shape as the base. Then I chose 2 auspicious quotes and cut them using my cutter as well. It would be quite boring using just the cut out words for the 对联so I alternated between the negatives (from the cut outs) and the cut out words.

To mat the cut outs, I used Basic Grey and 7 Gypsies paper (torn into smaller pieces – One of my favorite techniques). For a more dimensional feel, I layered some of the words with KCK Sponge Dots. Also layered the flowers cut out from one of the Glittering Glamour paper. Then littered the pieces with embellishments.

I'm a silly scrapbooker, loves eating good food but fall short of my own standards in my own kitchen, has a day job that funds my scrapbooking hobby, hates doing laundry but loves buying clothes and has countless shoes that only a centepede would require but best of all, I have a loving husband who thinks this hobby is perilous but never once complains and supports me in this journey!

Here are my two altered notebook covers. The colour themes challenged me to do something different from my usual style which is the bright cheery colours and I just got down to work with whatever I picked up from KCK and it just came!

I used the paper ribbon to make a flower by scrunching it at intervals and attaching it at the end to show how paper ribbon can also be used for other things besides the typical usage.

Aniza is the 4th member of the Challenge Design Team.

Hi my name is Aniza @ momma2omar and I started scrapping in 2007.

I met my hubby while we were both still in university. We tied the knot 7 years ago and are blessed with the cheekiest little boy who lights up our lives in ways we never thought possible. He was the reason I started scrapping and he is also the reason I continue doing so. When I am not a wife, mummy, cook, laundry-woman, bum-wiper, milk-maker, & scrapper - I am a full-time post-graduate research student at NUS. I have yet to settle into a scrapping style but I know for certain that I simply love my basic tools - paper, scissors & glue.

It is an honour to be invited to design for KCK.

Title - Our notes to you

I incorporated 2 Maya Road envelopes to contain messages that my husband and I will write to our son. Our hope - when he's older or when we're no longer around, he will be able to read these messages and know how much we love him.

I love layering my layouts, therefore. my most favourite go to item is the KCK 3D Sponge Dots. One problem I face is difficulty in storing my "super-pop-up" layouts :)

Today's designer mixes Basic Grey's Cappella and Origins to create a 'Beautiful' shabby chic layout.

Challenge Designer :

Veronica is the 3rd member of the Challenge Design Team.

My name is Veronica and I am a full-time working mother of two beautiful girls, who form the subjects for most of my layouts and projects. I was introduced to scrapbooking a few years ago and it has become a passion with me for capturing and preserving those special, treasured moments in our lives.

I love creating layouts that showcase my own “shabby chic” style. My favourite embellishments are always flowers, as well as crystals, pearls and laces. I have been fortunate to have been on the design teams for several challenge sites, as well as for manufacturer Zva Creative, and am currently still designing for Custom Crops, an online store. I'm thrilled to have been asked to guest design for KCK this month, and really had fun creating my layout, Basic Grey being one of my fave manufacturers! Inspiration Project :

I wanted a layout with lots of dimension and texture. To begin, I trimmed off the edges of the Origins 'Mud Mask' paper to get a non-12x12 shape, and used this as a base. I then cut the Cappella 'Bravo!' paper into a circle and layered this over a piece of Basic Grey cardstock which I had cut into a scalloped circular shape to frame the 'Bravo!' paper.

The 'Bravo!' paper is distressed using a water distress technique - I wet the edges of the paper and then folded and pinched the edges in at random to give the desired distressed look. For added texture, I then placed a piece of muslin cloth onto the layout before adding the photo and embellishments.

For the journaling, which I also took as the title of the layout, I used a die-cut shape from the Origins collection and trimmed the edge with lace. I then added the flowers and crystal and pearl flourishes. I love using flowers and vines on my layouts as they give the layout a very 3D effect.

Hi :) I'm Edleen, married to a wonderful man who is supportive of my scrapbooking obsession and Blessed to be Mother to 4 Beautiful Children. I began scrapbooking in 2005 and from whence it all began, I'm still Inspired by everything around me and scrapbooking mostly about the one thing I love most, my 4 kids.

I enjoy the creative process and while juggling time with home and kids, I still find time to create and go scrapbook shopping! I like simplicity and when I scrapbook, I often feature the photo to document on my layout. Inspiration Project :

I decided to alter these Acrylic frames that seems so plain yet after adding a mini layout and adding embellishments, it gives a totally vibrant feel. Here I stamped the borders on a plain patterned paper. Placing a photo over it and stamping an image and adding it onto the layout.

I enjoyed using the floral Basic Grey stamps and cutting out the images as well as the designs from the patterned papers. This range from Basic Grey has really earthy colours which I personally like. The diecut journals are truly useful to add as an embellishment or journalling your thoughts.

Being a novice stamper, I appreciate these easy-to-incorporate stamping ideas from Edleen.

Sandy's Spotlight : Quick Card with Envelop

This week's Spotlight is a card and envelop that you can whip out in 15 minutes. Make a batch of them quickly and always be ready when you need a nice handmade card.

Supplies :
g.c.d studios Artsy Urban collection - Big Butterfly paper, die-cut borders, epoxy stickers
others - 6.5" x 4.5" envelop

Cardmakers often stay away from papers with large bold patterns. So I've chosen Big Butterfly to show you how easy it is to use them on a standard 6"x 4" card.

Instructions :

Cut a 6" x 8" rectangle from the pattern paper and fold in half

Glue some die-cut borders and epoxy stickers to the front
Use the rest of the quotation die-cut on the back
Add some more borders and stickers to the envelop

Tip & Trick :

Cut a small slit at the butterfly's 'waist'. Insert the die-cut border through the slit to achieve a seamless look. Conceal inside with a epoxy sticker.

Grab several Big Butterfly papers and make a varied batch of these. You can get 5 cards out the border and sticker packs.

Hello! I’m Yati aka Salene. I’m a full time working mum with 2 beautiful daughters who had been the main subjects of my pages. In 2007, when I had my first daughter, I became obsessed with scrapbooking. I wanted to record, capture and preserve all the precious memories of our life together… our journey…. the ups and downs.

My style of scrapbooking usually depends on the photos that I wanted to scrap. What kind of feeling/story I wanted to portray through my layouts. Inspiration Project :

Love Banner

I covered the chipboard banner with the gorgeous vintage-looking g.c.d studios papers, sanded and inked the edges. I diecut the heart shaped and the alphas. I inked the alphas with black ink and and covered it with fine black glitter and heat embossed the heart-shaped chipboard with silver and red glitter.

Lastly, I added the g.c.d studios embellishments to give the banner a complete look! They just fall into places!!

Greetings from Sunny Singapore! I'm Jenn or Jennie, mama to missy N, wife to Ed, lover of art, photography, music, reading and of course scrapbooking!!
My style is best described as eclectic because I just loves to experiment with different paints and techniques while creating. I'm really honoured to be invited to design for KCK and hope to see your creation soon.

Inspiration Project :

Altered Canvas

Firstly I started by painting the canvas, then I embossed slightly on the edge of the canvas to give it some dimensions. Lastly I cut out the Artsy Urban big butterfly and the pink and black border strip and used Distress Ink in tea dye to inked the edge a little.

Then I assembled and layer them onto each other. Lastly, I adhere the epoxy stickers onto some patterned paper to create a border and cut them out and adhere them with pop-up glue onto the canvas, then I added the glass paperclip and here you have a beautiful canvas home decor or wall mounted decorative piece for your beautiful home or friends.

Mini-mail Tin Box

For the mini tin mail-box, I cut out a 4" x 12" yellow patterned paper from the balance Artsy Urban big butterfly patterned paper, adhere it onto the tin mail-box and adhered the side with ribbons, then I adhere a die-cut border, and embellished further with epoxy stickers, dew drops and blings, lastly I tied some assorted pink ribbons to the flag, and here you got a cute little mini tin mail box for decor or as the holder for a mini book for your beautiful work.

Challenge Design Team - Pearl

Today's designer chose to work with g.c.d studios Homespun Chic. Take a look at how she took it in a different direction with her LO.

Challenge Designer :

Pearl Liu is the third member of the Challenge Design Team.

My name is Pearl and I’m a SAHM to 2 wonderful children. I first started scrapbooking after my wedding in 1993 and after the birth of our daughter in 1995, I started cardmaking.

My greatest inspiration for my creations comes from patterned paper. I am really drawn to pattern and colour and the texture that comes from it. I also love exploring techniques using different mediums. My current style is often artsy and experimental. I just love working with color, textures, dimensions and layers. I am into handcutting, distressing, and layering.

As far as my creative process goes, my approach is either product driven or photo driven at the outset.I then choose the rest of the elements and put them together. I am a pretty fast scrapper and it’s rare for me to take things off once they are stuck down .

Inspiration Project :

I choose 4 of Tattered Angels fall colours to use with the spring/summer inspired colours of the g.c.d studio's Homespun Chic line.

I did a little fussy cutting with the flowers of the Homespun Mod - Flocked paper . To give some of the flower elements a little more pop, I randomly outlined some of the flower centers first with a black marker , then I went over with some Emerald Cove Glaze and brushed on a little Chandelier Glam for a soft, glimmered finish on different flowers.

I was very pleased after the background was finished and I placed my pics and the main elements that I wanted to use from the Homespun Chic line on it. I could see that the background colors were not an exact match with my elements but they certainly helped all the colors pop. To tie all the colors together , I used my fave handdyed crinkled ribbon, which had been misted with Dragonfly & Apple. To add some contrast, I added a dark teal crinkled ribbon cluster on my kraft tag. I love using crinkled ribbon in a flowing manner on layouts - it gives a soft yet fun texture.

Hi, I'm June. I'm a stay-at-home mum to two energetic boys (2 and 7 yrs old). I'm blessed to be married to a wonderful husband who is supportive of my crafting obsession. We live in sunny Singapore. A friend gave me a scrapbooking kit for Christmas in 2006 and I'm addicted to paper scrapbooking ever since.

I constantly inspired by the things that I see everyday. Scrapbook has been my place to escape and relax after the kids go to bed at night. My scrapbook style has moved from clean lines to a more layered look but I love adding embellishments to the page to highlight the photos. Do drop by my blog for a chat.

Inspiration Project :

The first thing that caught my eye from the Artsy Urban collection was the scallops along the edges and I decide to use it as the base of my layout. The butterflies prints were so beautiful so I cut 2 out from the pattern paper, folded their wings slightly and gave them a little dimension with the foam dots. The clear dies cuts were easy to use and I cut the blue swirls apart so they could be used in 2 different places.

I can see myself scraplifting June's sketch design for multi-photo layouts. Come back tomorrow for more inspiration from a new designer.

Stacy, our final Challenge #1 winner, is sharing her KCK feature project today.

Hi! I'm Stacy Koo, a Biomedical Regional Engineer by the day.. And because it is such a physically demanding job, I decided I need to find the other gentle side of me.

My scrapbooking interest started 3 years ago after attending a class with a colleague. And I haven't look back since then. I do not think that I have a style that I stick to, because I love to experiment with new colors and techniques, but I'd say that I can't do without the color brown! When I do have more time, I really love to look into altered items... I guess that should be due to my engineering background! Do drop by my blog and say hi!

Project :

I made use of my KCK Easi Kutz and the clock hands dies. I dismantled everything and started assembling the clock hands to fit into the original clock slot. Once I was sure the clock hands moved, I started painting the frame of the clock and pasting the Basic Grey papers on the background. Next I placed the numbers carefully at its intended location. When it was all done, I embellished the glass surface with Basic Grey rub-ons, blings and other embellishments.

But being an engineer, I had to run the clock for a week before I can finally assure myself - the clock is accurate! Hurray!

Hello ! My name is Winnie Chia. I began scrapping a few years back and since then I am very much in love with this hobby of mine! I loves all the pretty papers, ribbons, buttons, flowers .

I loves to experiment and to try out all the different styles of scrapping and often not it largely dependent on my mood and the photos that I am scrapping. Sometimes I love it to be super messy with tons of embellishments, misting and paints but yet sometimes I just want it to be really simple and clean! Sometimes I like it to be very girly with many flowers too! So there isn't really a define scrapping style that I adopt, so long as the completed LO is pleasing to my eye and it should be fine! Nevertheless, completed LO makes me happy and I believe that every LO speaks a thousand of words and it brings us back to the memories that we once had.

Project :

I have made use of the KCK glittering glamour range of papers, they are so flowery and sweet! I have used them by layering it with the cardstock sticker that I got from KCK! The stickers are so pretty and easy to use too! And not to mention, it have many different designs in a single sheet to choose from. I want the LO to have a girly feel, so I added the handmade stickers that I got from KCK. The lovely mannequin stickers along with the rose stickers are very unique and I like the way it is to be on my LO!

This week I am featuring KCK projects from our Challenge #1 winners. First up is Sharm .

I'm Sharm from Malaysia. I'm a stay-at-home-mum to a very mischievous one year old bratty lil gal that I love loads and a wonderfully supportive hubby.

I love all things handmade & indulge in a variety of handmade hobbies that include card making, scrapping and jewelry making. I truly believe that a handmade gift is beautiful to receive as it is to make. It is also a poignant way to express a thought that comes straight from the heart. Though my time is fully occupied with my lil princess, I make time to indulge in this hobby that I find to be extremely therapeutic after a busy day with her.

I'm also a self-confessed hoarder ! I can't walk out of a scrapbooking supplies store empty handed!

Project :

This altered photo frame was made as a wall mounted decorative piece. It's meant to inspire one to celebrate and rejoice in life. Hence the live, laugh, love!

The KCK Glitter Glamour patterned papers are very beautiful. By cutting out the flowers, you can not only create dimension, but you can also piece them up together to form a foliage. The KCK handmade stickers also co-ordinate nicely with the patterned paper to give it a vintage feel.

KCK Challenge :

Lynn Yen is the final member of the Challenge Design Team.

Greetings from Sunny Singapore! I'm Lynn Yen, a fresh psychology graduate from NUS. I'm currently having the best time of my life, coaching children and youths in their studies as well as in life skills. I'm also managing an online clothing store, doing part time modelling on the sly and best of all, indulging in this amazing hobby of scrapbooking!

I started scrapbooking in late 2008, justified by the hoarding of supplies for more than half a year! It opened up my eyes to the wonders of what just paper and glue can do. They amaze people both aesthetically and spiritually, something not many art forms can do! I am obsessed with paper, embellishments and can't complete a layout without girly embellishments like flowers and butterflies.

I'm really honoured to be invited to design for KCK which churns out products that rock socks! Do visit my blog for more layouts, cards and other projects!

KCK Products - KCK Glittering Glamour papers (ref:12060, 12034, 12061, 12141), KCK glittering stickers, KCK Funky ribbons

Inspiration Project :

I decided to forgo the cardstock for the base and use the gorgeous KCK glittering glamour paper instead. This helped to achieve the dreamy look I had in my mind for the photo of me looking away. I chose colours that matched my photo, which is very important for cohesion in a design. The KCK papers used here are perfect to bring out my photo with those beautiful glittering!

My all-time favourite technique - hand-cutting was exercised in executing this layout as the beautiful swirls and butterflies complement the flow of the layout very well. I also did triple matting on both the photo and the layer below. The KCK trim was also added to draw attention to the photo, and this simple layout is topped up with my favourite Prima flowers and the KCK glittering stickers for the title.

Inspiration Project :

Our Sweet Memories - 6" x 4" Mini-Album

The embellishment stickers that I chose are so lovely and very eclectic looking. Perfect combination to go along with the papers!

I also used a butterfly punch to punch the papers to further enhance the designs. To finish the look I distress the edges of the mini album with brown ink.
